The project is finished. (http://chrono.ocremix.org/)
I went over to Overclocked Remix on my occasional visit and was happy to discover that "Chrono Symphonic" has finally been completed. It's a 25-track project, by 18 artists, on a score to a fan-script of a movie of Chrono Trigger that'll never be made. So, basically, it's a lot of tracks remixed and blended for a more story-built flow rather than a background music flow.
I've listened to the whole thing and it's very good. Tracks 6 (the early part) and 8 waver, but only because they lack the subtlety necessary for the themes they're using.
Otherwise, it's an excellent project. The themes from the game are heavly expanded on for the most part, being used for a wide range of tones. I like how one of the main themes is used as a sort of echoing resonance in the 21st and 23rd tracks. Track 22 is very good (it represents the battle against Queen Zeal) in how it breaks away from remixing past themes and instead blends a couple Zeal-related themes with a battle theme to become something new.
My favorites tracks 18 and 19, as they both work with the Undersea Palace theme in ways I've waited a long time to here, one with a rush of heavy string work and a chorus, while the other is pretty true to the original, except with better quality instruments.
It's worth a look if you're a fan of the music of Chrono Trigger.
